Panning for gold

After taking the ride back to where we started, we let the kids pan for gold. The way it works is pretty simple, you go into the gift store and buy a bag that has sand and stones in it. The stones aren’t officially precious, but they are to kids. Gems like pyrite and quartz are buried inside the sand. Dump the bag into the sifter and let the water from the stream come up and wash away the sand and pebbles. All that’s left are the shiny stones. Quite a find for the kids. They all had a great time with it.

Homeward Bound

After finishing our souveneir shopping at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures, we piled in to the van worn out and hungry. I drove us down the mountain and into Collingwood where we easily found an East Side Marios for dinner, then the Starbucks for coffee to keep me going on the long drive home.
